Shake That ass - misogynoir in dance | mit Ras | Workshop im Rahmen der IWGR 2025

In diesem Workshop wollen wir Tänze kennenlernen und reflektieren, die unter dem Begriff „Twerk“ zusammengefasst werden. Wir beginnen mit der Theorie und lernen etwas über die Geschichte von Twerk, den Ursprung des Wortes, die verschiedenen Tanzstile, die es schon gab, bevor das Wort Twerk aufkam und die Kontexte, in denen sich Twerk entwickelt hat. Wir werden uns auch mit der Aneignung und falschen Darstellung von Kulturen beschäftigen, die Twerk hervorgebracht haben, und was das mit Mysogynoir zu tun hat. Misogynoir ist ein Begriff, der die spezifische Misogynie beschreibt, der Schwarze Frauen ausgesetzt sind. Zum Abschluss geht ums Tanzen und Shake That Ass!

In this workshop we want to learn about and reflect on dances broadly pooled by the term 'twerk'. We will start off with theory, learning about the history of twerk, the origin of the word, the different dance styles there have been already before the word twerk came up and the contexts in which twerk evolved. We will also look at the appropriation and misrepresentation of cultures birthing twerk and what that has to do with mysogynoir. Misogynoir is a term, which describes the specific misogyny faced by Black women. After all we gonna dance and shake our asses!
